What If Investing Is About More Than Returns?

What if investing is not simply about maximizing returns, but also about maximizing faithfulness?

Dinner with Robin John

A month ago, we had the privilege of hosting Robin John, CEO of Eventide, for an evening focused on stewardship, purpose, and the eternal significance of our financial decisions.

While many investing conversations center on performance, Robin challenged us to consider a deeper question:

What if investing is not simply about maximizing returns, but also about maximizing faithfulness?

As followers of Christ and as Christian Financial Advisors, we believe that God owns everything and that we are stewards of the resources He has entrusted to our care. That stewardship extends beyond our spending and giving—it includes our investing as well.

Every investment is helping build something. Every dollar supports businesses, products, services, and people. Yet many investors have never paused to ask what impact their capital is having while it is invested.

Robin reminded us that our financial decisions can be an expression of loving our neighbors and seeking the flourishing of others. Rather than viewing investing as disconnected from our faith, we can view it as another opportunity to honor God and participate in His work in the world.

This perspective is at the heart of Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI). BRI seeks to align investment decisions with biblical values while pursuing wise financial stewardship. It challenges investors to think not only about risk and return, but also about the real-world impact of the companies they own.

Ultimately, the conversation is bigger than investing. It is about recognizing that all of life belongs to God. One day, each of us will give an account for how we stewarded the gifts He placed in our hands. That reality gives purpose and meaning to even the most ordinary financial decisions.

For those who would like to explore these concepts more deeply, Robin has created a short video series that expands on many of the themes discussed during our event.

The series provides a thoughtful introduction to Biblical stewardship, the principles behind Biblically Responsible Investing, and practical considerations for those seeking to align their investments with their faith.

Our genuine prayer is that these resources encourage you to think deeply about stewardship—not merely as a financial responsibility, but as an opportunity to glorify God and serve others with all that He has entrusted to your care.
